BORDERLANDS REGION
In the Borderlands region, THE OFFICE performing arts + film has worked closely with lead partners at the City of Albuquerque Department of Arts & Culture in New Mexico and Southwest Folklife Alliance in Tucson, AZ to identify regional Culture Hubs that reflect different facets of the region’s wide-ranging cultural identities, practices, and narratives and are engaged in the deep and meaningful work of leveraging culture in service of the needs and well-being of their local communities.
These five Culture Hubs are hosting a total of 15 AAW Artists, working across Arizona, New Mexico, Southern California, and Texas, in partnership with local social impact organizations across a range of community priorities.
The implementation of Artists At Work in the Borderlands region is made possible by the generous support of the Mellon Foundation that enabled AAW to expand nationally, launching programs in Los Angeles County (2021), the Mississippi Delta region (2022), and the Borderlands region (2023).

AAW Administrative Fellows work to support the implementation and evaluation of the AAW program locally and play a vital role in communicating with regional program participants. AAW is thrilled to welcome Gabriela Yadegari in this role for the Borderlands region.
Gabriela Yadegari’s work as an artist and educator is largely informed by their upbringing in Tucson, Arizona where they were raised in a multicultural household. From a young age, their love for art was nurtured by the diverse and creative community of the borderlands. Finding inspiration in their community's resilience and commitment to justice, Gabriela has devoted their professional career to encourage artmaking as a means of expression and connection by contributing to the creation and expansion of public programs for cultural organizations in art and radio. While living in Tucson, they worked for several nonprofit arts organizations including Arts for All, KXCI Community Radio, and Groundworks. Gabriela relocated to Vermont where they received their BA from Bennington College in 2021 with concentrations in Visual Arts, Sound Studies, and Public Action. During their time in Vermont, they continued to pursue their efforts in education and cultural organizations for Bennington College Radio, Molly Stark Elementary School, Burlington Community Justice Center, and MASS MoCA. Gabriela moved to New York City in 2022.
